Sailors have always been superstitious about leaving port on a Friday. Sometime in the 19th century, the Royal Navy attempted to finally dispel the old superstition among sailors that beginning a voyage on a Friday was certain to bring bad luck. To demonstrate the falseness of this belief, they decided to commission a ship named HMS Friday. Her keel was laid on a Friday, she was launched on a Friday, and she set sail on her maiden voyage on a Friday, under the command of a Captain James Friday. She was never seen or heard from again. S/V Sweet Caroline left Boqueron this morning for the South Coast but is now heading back because the Sailing Vessel “Evergreen 4 Rest” that was traveling with S/V Sweet Caroline developed engine problems. Everything on Sweet Caroline is working correctly. Maybe there is something to say about leaving on a Friday. S/V Sweet Caroline reported great sea conditions (seas around a foot) except they were headed directly into the wind which prohibited S/V Evergreen from continuing on the journey.
